ARTIST STATEMENT

Based on Winston Churchill’s iconic WWII message to the British Citizenry  “KEEP CALM and CARRY ON”, this Public Art Meets Public Service project aims to express pride in and build awareness of the blended culture of the US/Mexico borderland, particularly as it is experienced and lived in my home of San Antonio, Texas.

In this divisive time, the country has much to learn from my community, where the beauty and benefits of a blended culture abound, and prophesy a changing nation. A look in our direction helps people who have no firsthand knowledge of this fact understand that as cultures meet, marry and blend there is nothing to fear and only richness to gain.
